On May 11, 1996 I purchased my first new vehicle (my two previous cars, a Pinto and a BMW -- a strange combination I know -- were both purchased used). In fact, my Jeep had only 16 miles on it before my test drive. My GC has an Inline 6 cylinder 4 liter engine and Select-trac, shift-on-the-fly 4 wheel drive.

Pictures
Here's a picture of my GC with the wimpy Goodyear stock tires (this was taken in Cuyamaca, above the Anza-Borrego desert in June '96). The paint color is called "Char-Gold II" -- a popular color which was retired in 1999.
Below are some pictures taken during a trip to the Mojave desert.
A tour of the old Mojave road was given by Dennis Casebier, founder of the Friends of the Mojave Road, in early October, 1996. This was my GC's "maiden" 4-wheeling voyage through deep washes, rocky slopes and sand dunes. I even drove trails that were so narrow our trucks had to be driven sideways. Thanks to a heavy coat of Teflon, my GC's paint didn't suffer scratches from cat-claw bushes and other brush. We began that Saturday at Mile 00 along the Colorado River just inside the Nevada border. The trip ended on Sunday in Afton Canyon in the East Mojave. All I can say is, "What a rush!" I can't wait to go 4-wheeling again!
As you can see, Grand Cherokees do get dirty from
time to time -- especially when traveling down the old Mojave Road:
Near Piute Creek (you can see the oasis in the background). |

Next on the travel agenda will be trips to Santa
Barbara, Monterey and finally...ta-da...San
Francisco -- even Canada!
